Today most of this land,
with still intact, sometimes wild valley and
plains, has fortunately become a natural park or
a preserve (Orecchiella, Apuane) where the
discovery is continuous, among a still
unpolluted nature, panoramas which take your
breath away, villages and buildings which
breathe history (often, unfortunately, made of
poverty, neglect and emigration) and maybe a
good, simple, traditional dish of spelt soup or
mushrooms¦

In conclusion, how to
leave Garfagnana without having seen the
hermitage of Calomini or the one of S. Viviano,
set into the stone, the Dome of Barga with its
splendid Romanesque pulpit, the formidable
fortress of Verrucole, the castle of Ghivizzano,
the fort of Castelnuovo or the one of
Castiglione?

...Nature
How to go away without
having filled up your eyes (or your soul?) with
the panoramas of Panie mountains, of Monte
Forato, of the park of Orecchiella, of the small
lakes of Vagli, Gramolazzo, Isolasanta? How to
forget the marble quarries, the wild Arnetola
valley, the pot-holes, the plain of Campo Catino
or the museum of rustic traditions of S.
Pellegrino in Alpe?
